Curiosities about this product
*The history of the name “Marisa”
The history of the rubber spatula, or pot licker, is unknown and not entirely confirmed, and so over the years various hypotheses have been formulated:
Although the history and origin of the marisa is unknown, several hypotheses have been developed regarding its name:
According to some scholars in the sector, the name "marisa" derives from Maryse Monpetit (1512-1578), a pastry chef at the Royal Court of Francis I of France.
Maryse supposedly invented the spatula while making some biscuits for the king.
The spatula would therefore have taken its name from that of the woman.
According to another version, at the end of the 19th century the name "maryse" was chosen by Léonard De Buyer to indicate a kitchen utensil. A nice anecdote is told on this topic:
Léonard De Buyer had been punished as a child for having playfully worn, as if it were a helmet, a greasy container of cake mix, dirtying his Sunday clothes.
Having grown up and inherited the family business specializing in the manufacture of kitchen utensils, De Buyer invented a rubber spatula capable of scraping the bottom and sides of a pot and marketed it under the name "maryse". This name would become a trademark filed by the De Buyer company for their tool model.
